Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful break. In science, we will be working in small groups on remediations from Unit 4 on fossils. We will also begin Unit 5 on minerals and rocks. When looking at the first semester report, please remember that there is still work to be done on Unit 4. Look for the End-of-Unit report in a couple of weeks for updated information on that unit.
I also want to take a moment to say thank you to all the generous donors who helped to fully fund the project I had posted on DonorsChoose.org. In this project, I requested some really exciting materials that will encourage students to develop several 21st century skills including critical thinking, coding, and digital creation. The materials should all be here by the end of the week so I will start getting them into the hands of our kiddos next week. Thanks again to the amazing donors who helped out with this project!
This week’s learning targets in science:
- Differentiate between minerals and rocks (which are composed of different kinds of minerals
- Describe the distinguishing properties that can be used to classify minerals (i.e. luster, hardness, crystal shape, streak, reaction to magnets, and acids)
- Describe the methods used to identify the distinguishing properties of minerals
Have a great week!
