Week of 11/20 and 11/27

This week’s learning targets in science:

  • Explain the types of fossils and processes by which they are formed (i.e., replacement, mold and cast, preservation, trace)

Students have received their Unit 3 test results. These can also be viewed on mastery connect. Students who scored below 60% were offered after school tutoring. All others will receive extra help during itime this week and will be given an opportunity to retake any standards they struggled with.

Week of November 13th

This week’s learning targets in science:

  • Describe the different ways in which fossils form.

 

Students will receive their test report from Unit 3 this Thursday. I will set up tutoring with students as needed.

Week of November 8th

This week’s learning targets in science:

  • Identify plate boundaries and the landforms or geologic events that occur at each boundary.

 

Our Unit 3 test over Plate Tectonics will be Friday, November 10th. Students will be given a study guide on Wednesday, November 8th in class.

Week of October 23rd

This week’s learning targets in science:

  • outline evidence that is used to support the theory of continental drift
  • describe the mechanisms that are believed to cause crustal plate movement
  • describe how the plates move at each plate boundary and the effect this movement has on Earth’s crust

Week of October 16th

This week’s learning targets in science:

  • calculate the density of various objects and describe how changing temperature can change the density of an object
  • describe the layers of Earth’s interior
  • provide evidence that supports the theory of plate tectonics

 

Unit 2 test results have been loaded into Mastery Connect. Students who have standards in remediation will be invited to after-school tutoring or will work with me at Itime this week before being reassessed.

Soon, I will be rewarding students for great behavior by allowing them to spend their first quarter Class Dojo points that they have been working so hard to earn. I could use your help! With 106 students, it can become a costly endeavor to reward them all. If you’d like to send in any of the following items to help me stock my Class Dojo store, it would be greatly appreciated:

  • 12-pk soda (in cans)
  • Little Debbie snacks
  • candy
  • small prizes
  • mechanical pencils, pens, highlighters, erasers
  • WalMart gift cards (used to buy soda, candy and prizes for store)

Week of October 9th

This week’s learning targets in science:

  • Calculate density of objects
  • Describe Earth’s layers

We will have our Unit 2 science test on Tuesday over the scientific method. In addition to our in-class review, students have their science notebook and graded papers they can bring home to study.

Week of September 25th

This week’s learning targets in science:

  • Identify and write testable questions and hypotheses.
  • Identify and use the independent, dependent, and constants variables in an experiment.
  • Plan an experiment and make suggestions for improvements.

 

All students have been given a report of their performance for the Unit 1 post-test. Students who have standards in remediation will meet with me this week during itime for extra help before taking a summative assessment over those standards. If your child received a tutoring note, please sign and return it as soon as possible.
